Iceland Survival Journal: Part 1

The holidays feel more like the holidays, anywhere other than Florida.
Iceland in the winter? Sure, why not… 💁🏻‍♀️
If the mama dukes acts up, I can always leave her on a glacier.👌🏻

We landed in Reykjavik @ 6AM.
Since that time;
1. 3.5 fingers, between the mama dukes and I, were nearly compromised due to arctic temperatures…and a minor zipper malfunction.
2. The mama dukes re-enacted a horror movie, one which would consist of hitchhikers and…murder, after leaving her backpack on the bus. Realizing the mishap, she immediately began sprinting after the moving bus. When it was clear to her that there was no hope on foot- she ran into the middle of the road, and began jumping while simultaneously screaming and waving her arms at the oncoming vehicle rapidly approaching. Before my eyes, she vanished, inside of this vehicle she basically…kidnapped. Having little faith in her return due to cinematic flashbacks from Jeepers Creepers, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wrong Turn, and Ted Bundy…I spent the next 12 minutes going through several drafts of her eulogy. In a miracle twist, going against everything the horror movies have instilled- the mama emerged from behind a parked bus, limping, panting, yelling incoherently- with backpack in-hand.
At this point, it was only 10AM.

The rest of the afternoon was much less dramatic..unless you count the numerous times the mama crossed the road without looking, into oncoming traffic. In comparison to the earlier events, I suppose this negligence holds no standing. So we’ll move on…

Throughout the whole, 5, hours of daylight today; we thought we glimpsed a green hue in the sky between the clouds. After enhancing the photos taken, the evidence of the Aurora was discovered (photos included for your viewing pleasure). This was exciting and we became optimistic, as the weather has not allowed sightings in Iceland recently (I will spare you the “global warming” debate, for now…).

It’s 8:54PM. We have boarded the Titanic. Or, a boat. Same thing.
The forecast for the Aurora is above average. Wish us luck on the open sea- not for a sighting, but for no casualties, obviously… 👍🏻
